Purple Dave

I know a man in Southwest Michigan
and they call him purple Dave
He’s a full fledged lesbian
and that’s why he’s got to shave
And in the summer sun he lays
Out with the geese in Milham Park
To get an olive oil tan
He’s going to be there till dark

and they call him Purple Dave
Yes they call him Purple Dave

They let him out in 1976
from an asylum on the hill
With nothing but a slip to prescribe
a lifetime of eating lithium pills
And now he walks the naked streets at night
wearing his Aunt Libby’s wig
His fishnet stockings so tight
skin skinny like a walking twig

and they call him Purple Dave
Yes they call him Purple Dave

Walking backwards through life
his father the poet had no wife
I know you’re at a loss for the reason why
He’s a friend that I love

They let him out in 1976
from an asylum on the hill
With nothing but a slip to prescribe
a lifetime of eating lithium pills
You know it’s true, he ain’t like you or me
He’’s got soul and integrity
Lay back light up, but don’t you turn away
Kick one back, take a drink for Purple Dave

and they call him Purple Dave
Oh yes they call him Purple Dave
